Punta Cana International Airport Set to Host Massive Aircraft Maintenance Facility
Get ready. Touted as the second busiest airport in the Caribbean, Punta Cana International Airport (MDPC) will be hosting a new and relatively spacious aircraft maintenance facility. FL Technics is known worldwide as one of the largest aircraft maintenance solutions providers in the world. The project is under way, and once completed, the airport will gain over 52,000 square meters of maintenance facility space. Upon completion, this innovative and modern facility will house five bays for base maintenance operations. In addition, a detailed and state-of-the-art support shop, including a hangar and bay facilities with 20,000 square meters of functional area, will be part of the larger facility.
Global Independent Network of Maintenance Facilities.
The construction of this project is expected to take approximately two years. Most importantly, the company, FL Technics, is dedicated to expanding its existing global independent network of maintenance facilities. This includes bases located in Scotland, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania, as well as Indonesia. Once operational, the Punta Cana International Airport facility will increase the company’s overall square footage of manageable maintenance space to more than 86,000 square meters in total.
Certified By the FAA and the EASA
FL Technics, with its new facility, is expected to make available line maintenance services and base maintenance services to a wide range of aircraft operators. The company will provide support for narrow-body aircraft throughout the Americas, including The United States as well as Central and South America. By leveraging its global expertise and its extensive experience with part 141 capabilities as certified by the FAA and the EASA or European Aviation Safety Agency, the company will provide much-needed relief to a growing demand for aircraft maintenance services worldwide.
Zilvinas Lapinskas
The chief executive of FL Technics, Zilvinas Lapinskas, recently stated, “This expansion is our first physical base maintenance foothold in the region, following the existing FL Technics operations in the Americas, including a line maintenance network in Canada. It is a decisive investment as we aim to provide comprehensive MRO solutions to create long-term partnerships and a base for other future developments in the continent.”
The Second Stage of Development
In addition, the company continues ongoing investments throughout Central and South America, as well as the United States, making it clear why the Punta Cana investment is so important. As a matter of fact, the company has already signaled that it plans to add as many as seven more bays during the second stage of development. This would bring the total number of maintenance bays to 12, adding critical maintenance capacity for the previously mentioned regions.
Free Trade Zone
The following statement was posted to the company’s website regarding strategic partnerships. “We are pleased to announce our strategic alliance with FL Technics to offer world-class MRO services at Punta Cana International Airport and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone. With this strategic alliance, airport customers will have access to a wide range of aircraft maintenance and repair services, including scheduled inspections, component repairs, cabin modifications, and painting, among others,” commented Giovanni Rainieri, Punta Cana International Airport director of Airside Operations.
The Foundation for Future Expansion
Another recent comment by the chief operating officer of FL Technics, Saulius Bajarunas, about this exciting new project is, “Strategic and operational business development requires meticulous planning and evaluation, especially when it comes to complex projects in new markets. I trust this new infrastructure will become the foundation for future expansion of the new MRO hub, as the FL Technics team will apply best practices already proven successful in other continents.”
Avia Solutions Group
Finally, Avia Solutions Group, FL Technics’s parent company and coincidentally one of the highest capacity ACMI or aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance companies in the world, is, as would be expected, backing the Punta Cana project. Avia Solutions Group boasts just under 200 aircraft in its fleet, operating in regions throughout the globe. The company also facilitates pilot and crew training, ground handling, and other related services.
Aviation Heavyweights
This powerful combination of aviation heavyweights makes it clear that the Punta Cana project will likely be a huge success. To read the original article on the company website, click here, and to learn more, you can visit Fl Technics at fltechnics.com.
