ROCKY MOUNTAIN METRO AIRPORT ASSISTS FIRE RECOVERY EFFORTS

On December 30, 2021, the wind-whipped Marshall fire tore through several suburban communities northwest of Denver. Two people died as the fire raced through 6,000 acres of bone-dry vegetation and more than 1,000 homes were destroyed.

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC) sits less than two miles from the perimeter of the burn area and enjoys a very close relationship with its surrounding communities including the towns of Superior and Louisville that suffered most of the destruction. Many residents of those areas work, operate businesses or take flight training at the airport, and airport staff and officials worked together with tenants and businesses to donate more than 15,000 sq ft of hangar space to store food, supplies, equipment, and other items needed during the recovery. The space will assist displaced residents, emergency responders, and volunteers in their efforts to help the community mount cleanup and repair efforts.
