RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS COMPLETED AT MORRISVILLE-STOWE AIRPORT

Two major construction projects at the Morrisville-Stowe State Airport in Vermont have been completed and will help to provide a safer environment for airport operations. The projects included the construction of a parallel taxiway intended to expedite the exit of aircraft from the active runway as well as runway surface area improvements. The airport is now able to offer a taxiway that meets FAA standards along with turnarounds at both ends of the runway.

The projects were conducted in phases after work began in April of this year. Taxiway construction cost $2.9 million and runway improvements totaled around $1.2 million. The runway safety area on each end of Runway 1-19 has been paved and 150 feet of Runway 1 has been reconstructed. Taxiway B was removed during construction and the new taxiway designed to serve Runway 19 is 35 feet wide and 1,500 feet long. The projects also incorporated the installation of new infiltration practices, pavement markings, and airfield lighting along with the addition of a retaining wall on the west side of Runway 1. Further improvements at the airport included drainage system replacement, turf area regrading, and relocation of the fuel farm.
