TAOS REGIONAL AIRPORT TO RECEIVE $2 MILLION IN CARES FUNDING

The town of Taos, New Mexico has been awarded a $2 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to support infrastructure enhancements to the Taos Regional Airport and surrounding business park. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). A local funding amount of $500,000 is expected to match the grant and will prompt an anticipated $11 million in private investment.

The grant will help to build water and wastewater infrastructure at the airport and business park to supplement the effort to boost transportation, tourism, and business development in the town of Taos. The North Central Mexico Economic Development District led regional planning to gain traction in the airport and business park improvement project. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act has provided the EDA with $1.5 billion in pandemic-related economic assistance. The grant awarded to Taos falls within CARES Act Recovery Assistance designed to provide financial aid to eligible communities.
