Texarkana Airport Gains Recognition
AR – The Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK) has been making a concerted effort and doing extra work in recent years to become more accessible and attract more passengers, and those efforts paid off when the airport was named the 2022 Arkansas Airport of the Year by the Arkansas Airport Operators Association. After renovations and upgrades to the passenger terminal and other repairs as well as bringing in more airline services, TXK was named the best out of the 99 commercial and general aviation airports in Arkansas and airport management couldn’t be happier. This was the first time TXK has been recognized as the best in the state, and Airport Manager Paul Ehrlich said, “It’s always good to see the folks across the state would recognize us as the best.” He also said the award is an indication of reaching the goal of positioning the airport for further economic growth and development.
Texarkana Regional is operated by the Texarkana Regional Airport Authority and is jointly owned by the cities of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas. The cities straddle the border separating Arkansas and Texas and the airport is located about four miles northeast of the city. The Federal Aviation Administration recently notified the airport that it was in line to receive a grant through the U.S. Congress Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The $800,000 grant will be used to upgrade the airport’s master plan, which includes extending the main runway and further enhancements to the terminal building.
