Waiting List for Hangar Space at Minnesota Airport
MN – Park Rapids Municipal Airport – Konshok Field (PKD) in Park Rapids, Minnesota, is another example in the ongoing and wide-ranging story of mid-size airports that have an unmet demand for hangar space. The Park Rapids Airport Commission learned in late July that the waiting list for hangars currently stands at 30, although one tenant has recently given notice to terminate their lease, which will drop the list to 29.
The airport has nearly completed a taxilane project that includes pads for seven hangars to be built by interested parties. Four will accommodate 80’x80′ hangars and three will fit 60’x60′ hangars. One pad has been leased but the others are still available. The ground lease on the hangar pads runs $100 per month depending on the size. Water and sewer lines have been run to the pad sites, but developers will have to arrange for installation of natural gas and electricity service. In addition to the box hangars, the airport’s capital improvement plan calls for the construction of 10 T-hangars within the next few years. The airport is on the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s waitlist for a low-interest loan to build more hangars, and management says they stand ready to say Yes and move forward when their turn comes around.
