Women in Aviation International Announce New South Florida Chapter
FL – Another Women in Aviation International (WAI) chapter has been formed in Southern Florida, called SoFLY Southern Tropics. This branch represents South Florida to the Islands, home to multiple aviation and aerospace enterprises. This now makes 168 chapters in WAI, and 23 countries are represented.
WAI is a non-profit organization that supports women in all aviation career fields, including astronauts, pilots, maintenance techs, engineers, air traffic controllers, business owners, educators, journalists, flight attendants, students, airshow performers, and more. They are dedicated to supporting the aviation workforce of today and tomorrow with an inclusive and sustainable mindset that inspires and encourages young women and girls to look to the skies for their future careers.
Through a chapter network, WAI provides a local link to women who want to network, mentor, find a mentor, and reach out to their aviation community. While there are many chapters, even outside the United States, if you can’t find one in your area – why not start one?
The new SoFLY team is led by a team of dedicated women who are focused on providing resources, opportunities, and more to young women. They’ve already hosted their first meeting and are looking to become involved in networking events and aviation-related volunteer opportunities in their local community. President of SoFLY WAI, Jessica Matthews, said, “This chapter has generated a large following and interest from all corners of the industry.” Certainly, this new chapter of WAI and WAI chapters across the globe is a great way to encourage young women to enter an exciting field and boost their representation in aviation.
