WYOMING AVIATION RECEIVES FAA FUNDING

The Federal Aviation Administration in July awarded the state of Wyoming $17 million in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants. In addition, the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport (RKS) in Rock Springs was separately awarded $8 million in AIP funds.

The state funds will be used to pay for rehabilitation of terminals at numerous airports around the state. Some terminals haven’t been updated in nearly forty years, and these projects will involve the installation of new infrastructure, enlarge passenger lobby areas and enhance efficiency, safety, and security. At the Southwest Wyoming Regional the funds will be used to enlarge and upgrade baggage handling areas. Some of the funds will also be used to help pay for the reconstruction of the main Runway 9/27 at Cheyenne Regional Airport (CYS). That project is nearing completion with the runway expected to reopen on September 1, 2021 just in time for the winter season.

The Airport Improvement Program grants are funded by user fees from passengers and cargo operations, and are allocated to airports for continual upgrades and improvements nationwide.
