Yeager Airport Receives Grant for Runway Rehabilitation

WV – West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) has been awarded a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Project grant that will fund 90% of the rehabilitation of its Runway 5/23. This is the final phase of a three-year comprehensive upgrade to the runway that was last repaired in 2003 and will keep the surface in good condition for the next twenty years. The first phases were focused on particular areas of the runway that necessitated deep digs to repair the runway base layers.

WV Paving was awarded the prime contract of $11,742,280 and Airport Design Consultants Inc., will provide design engineering, construction management, and inspection services. The project will entail a 2-inch asphalt overlay of the entire runway and include revamping the runway lighting system with energy-efficient LED runway edge lights, electrical conductors, and runway exit signage modifications. Most of the work will be performed at night with nightly runway closures from midnight to 5 am beginning July 29th and running to November 13th, and there will be an extended closure of the runway from September 12th through 15th. The closures are scheduled so that airline flight operations will not be affected except during the extended closure when no flights will be permitted.
