ZEROAVIA RAISES $35 MILLION FOR HYDROGEN-ELECTRIC AVIATION SOLUTIONS

Zero-emission-focused ZeroAvia has raised an additional $35 million to advance the company’s effort toward commercializing its hydrogen-electric technology. The company has now secured $115 million of total investment to aid in the development of its 2-5MW zero-emission powertrain system for regional aviation. Investors in ZeroAvia include United Airlines, Alaska Air Group, Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, AP Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Horizons Ventures, Summa Equity, and Shell Ventures.

According to ZeroAvia, the company is expecting to reach the commercialization of its hydrogen propulsion technology by 2024. ZeroAvia intends to first develop a ten to 20 seat aircraft with a 500-mile range. The new round of funding will support an additional segment of 40-80 seat aircraft with turboprops targeted for 2026 and regional jets by 2028. The company expects their agreement with United to lead to an order of 50 ZA2000-RJ engines with an option for 50 additional units. ZeroAvia has bases in California and the UK with experimental certificates secured for its two prototype aircraft from the FAA and CAA.
